Sandy Martin, MD, Now in Tampa FL with the Prestigious "Center for Dermatology and Skin Surgery"!

Dr. Sandy Martin was born in New York.  He moved to South Florida in 1963 and has lived here continuously except for his education.   Sandy graduated from the University of Miami School of Arts and Sciences with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry in 1972.  He continued at the University Of Miami School Of Medicine and received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1976, graduating as an awardee of the National Honor Medical Society, Alpha Omega Alpha.  He continued studying at Jackson Memorial Affiliated Hospitals as an intern in Internal Medicine in 1977 and then went to study the specialty of Dermatology at the world class Baylor College of Medicine Affiliated Hospitals in Houston, Texas for three years.  He took and passed his specialty boards in 1980 and was certified by the American Board of Dermatology.  He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and has been voluntarily re-certified as to his competence by the American Board of Dermatology in 2009.

By the time he obtained his certificate, Sandy authored or co-authored numerous scientific articles ranging from certain hormonal effects on the fetal rat heart to “reactive angioendotheliomatosis,” a vascular process being studied today as a way to fight cancer.  Sandy also co-authored an important dermatology atlas which won an Honorable Mention for Excellence in Professional and Scholarly Publishing.

Sandy practiced Dermatology for over twenty years and concentrated on the management of sun damaged skin and skin cancer. He was one of the first owners of laser technology in our area and was administering collagen dermal filler as soon as it was available in the 1990’s.

Dr. Martin is known as a student, at heart. In addition to Medicine, he also studied Law!  He attended Nova Southeastern Shepard Broad Law Center and distinguished himself academically. He graduated with the highest of honors, Summa Cum Laude winning his law school’s prestigious Book Award for his performance in Contracts, Legal Skills & Values, Property Law, and Pre-Trial Litigation.  He was on Law Review Junior Staff where his paper on an important medically-related statute was published.  Sandy was an editor for The Pharmaceutical & Medical Device Bulletin, was Student Vice-Chair for the Medicine and Law Committee of the American Bar Association and is a member in good standing of the Florida Bar as well as the American Medical Association.

Sandy has been married for thirty years and he and his wife have three sons, one of whom is a doctor, one of whom is a lawyer, and one who is still in college!  With such a diverse background, Dr. Sandy Martin hopes to bring much more to the care of his patients than even the most discerning patient would expect!  He prides himself on taking care of the patient as a whole, whether it is for an unusual rash, skin cancer, or in the pursuit of cosmetic excellence.
